Fun Facts
- It was a highly valued breed due to high milk yield that it was highly traded in the past and can be found in many Mediterranean countries including Italy, Sicily, Greece and Turkey amongst others.
- Goat colours were synonymous with different Maltese villages due to cultural preferences. One could see whole herds of the same colour in particular villages while other colours in other villages.
- In the past the goat population was high in Ħal Tarxien that the village had the nickname ‘Tar-Redus’ (goat’s droppings).
- The herdsman used to take their flock through village roads in order to provide the milk at the doorstep.
- People used the goat’s milk in their daily lives including for drinking, food and also to feed their children.
