Fun Facts
- During the breeding season females have the tendency to destroy the eggs of other nests and this is the main reason for eggs failing to hatch.
- Only the females incubate the eggs but after hatching the males together with the females help in taking care of the young.
- The males are 15% larger than their female counterparts.
- They are very vocal birds and make a wide range of sounds including the most common two syllabled call ‘cussik-cussik’.
- Scientists documented their existence since the eighteenth century when they obtained their official name.
