Fun Facts
- They are not considered to be able to fly long distances due to their long tail and short wings.
- One can determine whether they are males or females at an early stage when they are still chicks. Chicks start out with brown eyes, and the females retain this brown colour, but the males’ eyes gradually lighten to bright or pale yellow or almost white.
- Noisy birds attributed to their ‘chack chack’ sound and other vocalisation sounds.
- Young females usually reach maturity in one year, while males become mature when they are two years old.
- The chicks are born with their eyes open and are capable of walking and feeding themselves within a few hours after they hatch.
