  1. There are more than thirty species of Amazon parrots.
  2. They are an intelligent breed and are capable of mimicking sounds and words with some having quite a wide vocabulary.
  3. Similar to most parakeets normally they continue to breed with the same partner year after year (monogamous).
  4. Known for their ability to fly at high altitude and to travel long distances.
  5. Although they have some taste glands at the back of their throat about 300 of their taste buds are located at the roofs of their mouths.
