- There are more than thirty species of Amazon parrots.
- They are an intelligent breed and are capable of mimicking sounds and words with some having quite a wide vocabulary.
- Similar to most parakeets normally they continue to breed with the same partner year after year (monogamous).
- Known for their ability to fly at high altitude and to travel long distances.
- Although they have some taste glands at the back of their throat about 300 of their taste buds are located at the roofs of their mouths.
